The 2011 Show
Powburn Show is held on the first Saturday in August each year,
starting the local annual show season.
The show includes an Industrial tent with entry classes for
horticulture, cookery, handicrafts and children’s classes.
In addition there is the sheep section, sheepdog trials, dog show,
pony sports and jumping.
There is something for everyone, children’s sports and
entertainment, car boot, traders selling their wares.
Added attractions are The Cumberland & Westmorland Wrestling and the Hill
race draws a lot of visitors from other parts of the country.
This year the committee provided an undercover area for local food
producers to come along to the Show
to present the variety of food stuffs,
from fresh vegetables and
meat, to cheese makers, home-made cakes, tasty pickles and
preserves, and crafts and also present produce from our
local artisan baker who makes a wide range of excellent, tasty
breads,
offering our visitors the chance to taste and purchase locally
produced
goodies from Northumberland.
More and more people are interested in where their food comes from
and want locally sourced quality produce;
we would like to inspire our visitors to eat sustainable and seasonal food
thereby supporting our Northumbrian artisans.
As well as food and drink, visitors enjoyed seeing local
traditional crafts being made and demonstrated,
such as spinning with the Northumbrian Spinners, Dressed sticks,
Willow Weaving where adults and children
were able to make and take home what they had produced.
There were exhibitions by the Strong Man and archery demonstrations
and competitions together with the Cumberland Wrestling events
Although the weather was poor with frequent showers, the show was a
general success with a good entry and people enjoyed themselves.

Thanks to everyone who has
sponsored the 2011 show
& to visitors and exhibitors etc for attending and to Mr Dodds
for the use of the field.
